Unlike swinging doors, where the door has to exactly fit the door frame, with barn doors, you will need a slightly larger door than the opening. Take a look at our complete illustrated guide.

All of our hardware kits come with a concealed T-Guide (click here for more info). The T-Guide is mounted on the floor and fits into a slot cut into the bottom edge of a sliding door. We also have a C-Guide option that doesn't require modifying the door bottom. The C-Guide cups the bottom of the door, holding it in place. C-Guides are available for doors 1" or thicker. We also offer a wall-mounted roller guide for applications where it is difficult to mount a guide to the floor. It is ideal for outdoor settings and/or doors up to 2-3/4" thick.

We highly recommend using one to keep your door from swaying as it slides along the track. The floor guide helps keep the door stable. The door should always remain in contact with the bottom guide.

Yes, but only if you have wood blocking built into your wall. If you do not have wood blocking built into the wall, you will need to mount the hardware to a wood ledger board. The reason for this is that the hardware rails come with pre-drilled holes that do not line up with the studs in your wall. We recommend a wood ledger board consisting of a hardwood such as oak or fir. We recommend the dimensions be 1" thick, 5-1/2" tall, and 2" longer than the hardware rail length.

We recommend a door-to-frame overlap of at least 1" per side for doors up to 54". This assists with maintaining privacy. For larger doors, use a 2"overlap per side.

We recommend sizing up - go with the larger kit size and add an adjustable end stop. The longer rail will give you plenty of room for your door to operate and the adjustable end stop will give you the ability to stop the door at the desired point on the rail. We can also make custom sizes for special projects - please contact us for more details.

Door handing is determined from the outside of a room. If the hinges are on the left side, the door has left handing. If the door swings into the room (away from you, standing outside the room), it is a left-hand inswing door. If it swings toward you, out of the room, it is a left-hand outswing, or left-hand reverse door. The opposite is true of right hand doors – the hinges will be on the right side. If the door swings into the room (away from you), it is a right-hand inswing door. If it swings toward you, out of the room, it is a right-hand outswing, or right-hand reverse door.
